Gelcoat Fiberglass repair
« on: March 29, 2018, 04:07:33 PM »
Anyone have any recommendations on a gelcoat/ fiberglass repair company that does quality work?  I brought my boat up to Portland Yacht Service on a recommendation that they do good work.   Well their customer service is sub par if you want my opinion.  I originally brought the boat to have warranty work done on some Minn Kota items, the guys in service were saying yeah we are saltwater boats but we are also bass tournament guys so they understand time lines to get you back out on the water.

Well I asked them to do up an estimate 3 weeks ago and it was just this past Monday that they got around to writing up the estimate for my claims adjuster.   All last week the adjuster was trying to get the estimate from Steve at PYS.  All last week no response.   I called PYS and spoke to a lady who said she would have Steve call me back.   No call on Monday called tues again no call back.   Spoke to Steve today and proceeds to tell me that his fiberglass guy is booked for two weeks and probably won’t get to it until that time.   Oh he then goes on to tell me that the boat will need to stay there for at least a month to let everything cure.

Honestly, This guy Steve could have told me this three weeks ago that the work would take over 30 days to do the work. Why wasn’t my boat scheduled two weeks ago??? maybe I would have it by the end of April.

Anyways .... if anyone knows a really good fiberglass repair guy I’d appreciate it

Chris,

I'm sorry to hear that.  As you stated….had they let you know upfront that it would be a month before they got to it, you could have looked elsewhere. A simply phone call before you drove up there would have helped.  That's very poor service and that's a shame because guys and gals invest a lot of money into their boats.

I will reach out to a few people to see if they can help with your situation.

PYS=BAD RATINGS!!!!

SAD!!!!!

Thanks Joe!

 Yeah I am not impressed to say the least.  When I brought the boat up there on 19 FEB for Minn Kota warranty work, the guys in the Service Dept went on about how they are all tournament guys and do all they can to get the boats back out on the water.  When I dropped my boat off for Warranty work, I asked them to do up an estimate, they said they would.  Well, they called me on 2 March and gave me a verbal estimate, so I filed an insurance claim on 5 March after they gave me a verbal quote.  On 15 March the adjuster went to PYS and inspected the damage, Steve from PYS told the adjuster he still needed to type up the estimate and that he would get it to the insurance adjuster the following week.

21 March, I reach out to the adjuster to see if he received the estimate from PYS.  The adjuster informed me that he had still not received the written estimate from Steve at PYS. Finally on 27 March, Steve emailed the estimate over to my insurance adjuster and myself, I replied to Steve's email and ask when I can expect the work to be started and completed.  No reply from Steve PYS, I called several times over the week and no call back.  I finally get a call from Steve - PYS yesterday 29 March, and he proceeds to tell me that the work is going to take 30 days to complete and that his fiberglass guys are straight out and wont be able to get in for another two weeks.

I guess they really don't follow through with what they say and do all they can to get tournament boats back out on the water.

WOW! That is disgusting. I work in an automotive repair shop as the fixed operation manager and if my advisor acted like Steve he would be jobless. Your not stuck with them ask to speak to the general manager/owner, Express the amount of displeasure and just like this post give him a blow by blow of the incidents.

The general manager /owner will then do his apology dance and try to keep you there but if you insist on having the job completed elsewhere he should say just bring us the bill and we will reimburse you and then proceed to offer some sort of courtesy service at no charge.

Good luck and be tough with them your the customer who has been wronged. This shows that a simple communication break down and careless work from rushing is  all selfinflicted and you should not be wronged by the company
